Kumudini Bhavan Web Series Review

Positive & Negative Points

The opening of Kumudini Bhavan immediately hooks you, leaving with a sense of curiosity and a lot of unanswered questions. As the events gradually unfold, they captivate your attention, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Unlike many crime series, Kumudini Bhavan skillfully manages to withhold the identity of the murderer until later episodes, allowing you to eagerly speculate and make your own assumptions along the way.

One aspect of Kumudini Bhavan that I found particularly frustrating is the portrayal of the police as inept fools, relying heavily on a civilian to draw basic conclusions. It's not the complexity of the mystery that poses an issue – in fact, it's quite easy to follow along. Rather, the series does a disservice to the justice system by assuming they lack the technological know-how to understand the workings of Bluetooth speakers. Also, every time Hochi Sarkar, burdened with an amusing name, graces the screen, a lighthearted background score kicks in, further adding to the whimsical tone.

Is it really necessary for every show to incorporate humor? It seems to do more harm than good in this particular case. The attempt to portray Anushree as a superhuman is done by contrasting her quick wit and intelligence with Hochi's utter foolishness. I can't quite understand why this choice was made or why it was necessary. In reality, intelligent individuals can coexist while maintaining a serious tone. Unfortunately, it seems that is not the case within this particular universe. Additionally, I have a problem with the dynamics between Anushree and Hochi. For some reason, she constantly mistreats him, which is uncomfortable to watch. I mean, sure, she may be frustrated with his poorly developed character, solely present for comedic purposes, but is it really appropriate to speak to someone in that manner when you barely know them? Throughout most of the show, I failed to grasp the reasoning behind this behavior, and if anything, it made me feel even more sympathetic towards Hochi.

Kumudini Bhavan, despite its mystery, fell short for me in one crucial aspect. The portrayal of the police as bumbling fools, reliant on a civilian's help for simple deductions, left a sour taste. The plot itself is not overly intricate, making it easy to keep up with. However, the series does a disservice to the justice system by underestimating their technological expertise, particularly regarding Bluetooth speakers. To add to the frustration, every time Hochi Sarkar, burdened with an amusing name, graces the screen, a lighthearted background score chimes in, further reinforcing the whimsical tone.

Verdict

Lastly, I will say Kumudini Bhavan offers an enthralling and mind-stimulating mystery that will captivate you from start to finish. However, it does stumble when depicting law enforcement and their understanding of contemporary technology, occasionally relying on comedic clichés that could potentially undermine the show's overall credibility.
