The Eken Ruddhaswas Rajasthan film Review
After ruling the crime genre for several decades, both Feluda and Byomkesh were in dire need of a break. And it was during this time that a new detective, Eken Babu, made his captivating entry onto the Bengali film scene. Unlike his predecessors, Eken Babu isn't known for intricate whodunit plots or complex psychological twists. Instead, it is the perfect blend of quintessential Bengali comedy and relatability that has propelled Eken to great success. Joydeep Mukherjee's Eken, Ruddhaswas Rajasthan, never made any false promises it couldn't deliver. However, now is the time for the franchise to step up its game in order to continue drawing a dedicated audience. Otherwise, apart from a few impressive drone shots and an exciting camel chase, the transition from the web series to the big screen will be difficult to justify.
In the engaging and captivating city of Jaisalmer, a trio of friends embarks on an unforgettable vacation. Eken Babu, portrayed by the talented Anirban Chakroborty, is accompanied by the charismatic Bapi, brilliantly portrayed by Suhotro Mukhopadhya, and the lively Pomotho, brought to life by the multi-talented Somak Ghosh.
Little did they know that amidst the beauty and allure of Jaisalmer, a sinister plot was unfolding. Detective Ekendra Sen finds himself entangled in a web of artifact smuggling, an unexpected turn of events that would test his skills and courage. As Eken and his friends delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover a shocking truth - a powerful group of insiders orchestrating the illegal trade of ancient sculptures to foreign countries.
In their quest for justice, the trio seeks the assistance of two formidable individuals: Shatadru Ghosh, a brilliant archaeology professor, and Rajyasree Sen, the esteemed curator of the Jaisalmer museum. With a shared desire to put an end to these heinous crimes, Eken, Bapi, Pomotho, Shatadru, and Rajyasree join forces, forming an unstoppable team determined to bring the culprits to justice.
As the story unfolds against the backdrop of Jaisalmer's mesmerizing landscapes and historical treasures, readers will be captivated by this enthralling tale of mystery, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of truth. Will Eken and his companions succeed in exposing the secret cartel and thwarting their nefarious plans? Prepare to be enthralled as the adventure unfolds in this thrilling saga set in the heart of Jaisalmer.
The initial portion of the film flows smoothly, but it lacks the gripping pace that is essential for a thrilling experience. Additionally, the two-hour duration could have been utilized more effectively to maintain the audience's engagement. On the other hand, the second part urgently needed a major revelation or a stronger sense of closure. There is a hint of predictability as some key suspects are apprehended quite early into the second half. Towards the end, shocking truths about the culprit are unveiled, although the overall tone of the film does not consistently align with this revelation.
However, it is worth noting that the film extensively explores the stunning landscapes of Rajasthan, particularly the captivating city of Jaisalmer. The depiction of Ruddhaswas Rajasthan is a visual delight, resembling a travel documentary that takes viewers on a journey deep into the heart of the desert. The aerial shot showcasing the vibrant night lights is aesthetically pleasing. Furthermore, the action sequences are visually captivating and intelligently executed. Nevertheless, there are certain plot points that seem implausible, such as Eken spending a night in the open desert during a high-stakes police investigation.
