Sada ronger prithibi : The Tale of the oldest city

About the story:
Sada Ronger Prithibi is about those, whose world has turned white. In other words, the widowed women in our society. Now if I tell you about the subject of the film then I have to say that the film is centred around the city of Varanasi. At Varanasi, a racket of women trafficking is operating. Who are doing that, why they are doing that or what happens to them at the end; to know all those answers you have to watch the film.

About the cast:
The Film stars Srabanti Chatterjee, Arindam Sil, Devlina Kumar, Souroseni Moitro, Rwitobroto Mukherjee and others.

The Director and the Producer:
The film is directed by Rajarshi Dey and is
Produced by – Sushant Sengupta , Shrravonii Pal and Raajhorshee Dey.

About the film review:
Varanasi is  such a town where widows from all over the country go to stay. Women go there after losing their husbands, because they feel that it is the safest place. Moreover they feel that staying there itself is a holy deed. It is also said that if a person dies in Varanasi, he or she will straight away go to heaven. There is actually a novel by prafulla Roy on this subject. However the twist at the end of the novel and that of the film is not the same. I am just informing you about that novel in this context.
How far the film has done justice to the topic, to discuss that we must focus on the positive and the negative aspects of the film.  Before getting into that discussion, let me tell you that the role of the main protagonist in this film is played by Srabanti Chatterjee. Srabanti has played dual characters in the film. Apart from Srabonti there are Arindam Sil, Ritobroto, Devlina Kumar, Souroseni Moitro, and others.
If I talk about the first positive point of the film, then I must say that choosing such a storyline or bringing such a subject before the audience, is in itself is a big positive point. Because more films on topics like this need to be made and not just documentary but proper full length film like this. The film has explored the city of Varanasi to a great extent and this helps the audience to know a lot about the place. The background score of the film is just like that of a mainstream film. Had this film been made as an out and out commercial film then also this background score would have been perfect. The background score is a big positive point of the film. However there are quite a few negative points of the film. As I have stated earlier, the film fails to meet the expectation generated by the trailer.

The Acting Part :
The first negative point of the film is acting. There are several renowned good actors but they have not fulfilled our expectation in this movie; not even Srabanti. There are some places where Sravati's acting is good but overall the performance of all the artists are not up to the mark. There can be another explanation to this. The director has faltered in places and the entry of the characters as depicted in the movie and their final outcomes do not tally. The discrepancy in the entry and exit of characters is a big drawback of the film. The characters are appearing but when they are disappearing, there is no logical reason behind that. For example,  let us take the character of Sauroseni. If we watch her character attentively, then we will see that the motto behind her appearance is quite clear. It would have been perfect if this character would then have been revealed just at the climax but since that is not done, audience's curiosity regarding the character doesn't stay long. I have already talked about Srabanti's character.
The other characters which are used in the film, none of their makeup is good. Firstly the characters which are portrayed here look very hard core modern characters. Even if you assume that these characters are modern day characters and speaking very modern dialogues,  then their behaviour are not gelling with that. None of them are trying to break out of this racket. If anyone tries to break out and others oppose, then there would have been some kind of conflict. But that concept is not correctly portrayed in the movie. Even Arindam Sil's character gets lost in the middle of the narrative only to return later. Thus, the proper culmination of this character is also lacking.

The Scripting and the Technical part:
One of the biggest drawbacks of this film is the script. The scripting doesn't gel with the subject of the film. There are some slangs that are used in the narrative of the film but even those slangs do not lend the required shades to the characters and as a result, the usage of the words actually seem meaningless. Only Ritobroto, in some portions, has acted well and he succeeds to evoke laughter among the audience. But as far as the other actors are concerned, the dialogue delivery do not match with their body language.
Now talking about the making of the film; let me get  into the technical part. Technically,  the film is quite sound but there is not much parity between the technical aspect of the film and the story of the film.

The Verdict:
What I feel is that, the kind of hype that was generated by the trailer, that hype is missing in the movie. We know that director Rajorshi Dey makes films with little difference and that is quite clear through this movie also. But as a film the movie fails to touch the heart of the audience. You go and watch the movie and do let us know your opinion. As I already said my viewpoint is subjective. Many of you can like several things in the movie and if you do like, let us know by commenting in our comment box.
