Trailer Review:
The film Palan is inspired from the film Kharij. “Kharij” was directed by one of the greatest director of all time Mrinal Sen. The film was released in 1982 with a lot of respect. Kharij was adapted from Ramapada Chowdhury’s novel. Kaushik Ganguly directed Palan in the memory of 100th anniversary of Mrinal Sen. Palan is a servant whose dead body was found inside the kitchen where he worked. Police comes for investigation to solve the mystery. The director has kept a twist as in the trailer we can see. A mysterious atmosphere is prevailing in a North Kolkata’s old house where the incident took place.
According to the trailer, we see that there is a relation between Anjan Dutta’s family and Jishu Sengupta’s family but from the trailer it is not very clear about the relation, for that we need to wait for the film release. Though the film name is Palan but there is no character name palan in this film as we get to heart in the trailer
As I mentioned earlier, the casts who we saw in “Kharij” are same in “Palan”. Their acting is so realistic and versatile that I cannot put any second opinion on their acting. Even jishu and Paoli’s acting is quite commendable as we all know. Kaushik Ganguly has experimented with the looks and attitude of these three lead actors. In Kharij they were young but now in this age the style they should possess has been well look after by the director
About the Location:
Kaushik Ganguly is a director who is very particular in his selection. The way he has developed his plot, the same way he has selected the location. As we see in the trailer that a north Kolkata house which might be hundred years old makes it more mysterious. We get the typical gharana of Kaushik Ganguly. The emotions he portrays in his films works out so well that it leaves the audience in awe Like in few of the scenes when we see Anjan Dutta saying that his condition is like Palan,
Even when he moving with a stretcher or when he is in hospital he says “I thought my dead body will leave the Hospital”. The emotions he portrayed beautifully worked in this scene
Technical Part:
Coming to the technical part, the first thing I will talk about is Cinematography. The DOP has beautifully captured the scenes, the way Kaushik Ganguly wants the shots. We Bengalis know the houses of North Kolkata are generally shabby and aged giving an ancient feeling. The warm colour tone used by the editor gives the scenes realistic approach. We get that North Kolkata vibes seeing the surroundings and environment in the scenes. The background music is satisfactory but one thing I will share the scenes which was shown in the teaser release, most of them are same in trailer as well so not much can be concluded about the pattern of the film. The difference between Mrinal Sen’s “Kharij” and Kaushik Ganguly’s “Palan” can only be differentiated after watching the film once released
Verdict:
The film will definitely be a blockbuster once released. The approach is different and bravely executed by our director. So we all have to wait for it’s release. Bengali Film Reviews bring all latest news on entertainment. Be sure to visit Bengali Film Reviews for latest updates.
