Film Review:
After watching the film, I was too impatient waiting to do this film review. Coming directly to the story, an old house in Beltala where a lady residing in the house dies in the kitchen. Since the house was government restricted, corporation people came to demolish it. Tension arises between a aged couple as they were in dilemma where to go, son and daughter-in-law’s house or a rented place lastly. To know the full story you definitely should watch the film in theatres
Now directly coming to the positive angle of this film. The film Palan is inspired from the film Kharij. “Kharij” was directed by one of the greatest Director of all time Mrinal Sen. Kharij was adapted from Ramapada Chowdhury’s novel. Kaushik Ganguly directed Palan in the memory of 100th anniversary of Mrinal Sen. Since Palan is directed by Kaushik Ganguly inspired from Mrinal Sen’s Kharij, the making of both these films definitely comes to a comparison. We know the gharana of Kaushik Ganguly’s film making, he absolutely did proper justice by making this film and dedicating to the legend Mrinal Sen. The way Kaushik Ganguly carried the journey of the character keeping in mind of the actuality of Mrinal Sen’s “Kharij”, it is clear that his emotions are true when he stated that he started his film making watching Kharij
The full film has been made focussing the character played by Anjan Dutta and the different shades the director produced in the character is fantastic. Sometimes we see the character getting angry and blaming the corrupted government system, somewhere he emotionally expresses his last wish of leaving the house after death. Even Mamata Shankar, who plays the character of wife is brilliant with her acting. Shreela Majumder, who plays the role of a neighbour completes the package with her act. Even Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, though shares less screen time catches our attention with his small role of a promoter. But one thing which the director added in his film, the son and daughter-in-law pair played by Jishu Sengupta and Paoli Dam, whose chemistry is great on screen, even their tussle with their parents shows the vision of the director. Not for a second you will feel that these two characters have been forcibly implemented. It blends with the storyline so well that you will relate
The social message the director has put up to the society is beautiful. We see how a old age couple is so emotionally bound to their birth place that they nearly die if they think of leaving their home

Technical Part:
The first thing I will talk about is Cinematography. Appu Prabhakar has beautifully captured the scenes, the way Kaushik Ganguly wants the shots. Location is a big factor before presenting a screenplay and definitely we get that in Kaushik Ganguly’s film as we get that North Kolkata vibes seeing the surroundings and environment in the scenes. The journey between the past and present is beautifully presented after editing you won’t feel any jerk. The colour correction as well as the art direction is superb, like you can easily differentiate the tone and art setting when you see the scenes of a flat with that of old ancient house.
The background music is very appropriate. The director has deliberately used follies like sound of building being demolished, the chaos going around the surroundings even the music of Nil Dutta has perfectly blended with the film
If I talk about any negative point, though not negative but in today’s generation humans are too depressed and frustrated. Question is will this film give any motivation among them.

Verdict:
The film is definitely a treat to watch specially for the youngsters and learn about the social message. My personal opinion to you audience do go to the theatres and watch this masterpiece.
