About the story: Padatik, directed by Srijit Mukherji, has released on fifteenth August. Many of you had earlier seen the trailer and thus it is quite clear that the main subject of the film is the legendary film maker Mrinal Sen. This is his biopic. It shows his journey from being a medical representative to becoming a director. The trailer itself gave Goosebumps to many. Now let us explore what the film has in store for us.
About the cast and crew: The film stars Chanchal Chowdhury, Monami Ghosh, Korak Samanta and others.
About the director and the producer: Padatik is directed by the renowned director Srijit Mukherjee and produced by Firdausul Hasan and Prabal Halder.
About the film: Friends there is nothing much to discuss about the storyline of Padatik. Because it follows the journey of Mrinal Sen, spanning his entire life. As we all know Mrinal Sen started his career as a medical representative. He left the job to become the film director. Mrinal Sen failed drastically with his debut film Raatbhor, starring Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. At the same time Pather Panchali directed by Satyajit Ray was creating history. Everyone was talking about Ray. But Mrinal Sen did not give up. With his second film Neel Akasher Nichey, he proved his mettle. All these things are shown in the film.
Those of us who knowMrinal Sen, We know that he wanted to tell stories as well as de construct stories. In a way, Padatik was a challenge to Srijit Mukherjee. The various sequence of the films are beautifully strung together and the switching from one scene to another is also done beautifully. In his film Bhuban Shome, there was a sequence of a train journey. That scene is used here. It is shown how Mrinal Sen is making a journey by the train while going to join his job at a young age. During the journey a young boy stole his paddy and was about to jump off the train. At That time Mrinal Sen thought that if he imagined himself as a director. then he could use this incident in his film. That famous train journey scene of the film Bhuban Shome is beautifully merged here with a train journey scene of Padatik, in black and white. Those who know about this film and this particular scene, they will easily relate to this scene which is beautifully depicted on screen and transports the audience to that era. Not only that scene but Srijit Mukherjee has used several other scenes from Mrinal-Sen directed movies.
Nowlet metalk about the cast of the film. As we all know, in Padatik, the character of Mrinal Sen is portrayed by Chanchal Chowdhury. And the character of his wife that is Geeta Sen is played by Monami Ghosh. If we talk about Chanchal Chowdhury, we must say that he has proved his acting potential yet again. It is really difficult to differentiate between Chanchal Chowdhury and Mrinal Sen. If I talk about his look in this film then I can say that the makeup is not that outstanding but with his performance he has covered up all the shortcomings. Now if wetalk about Monami Ghosh, then we must say that she, in her homely look, has done total justice to the character of Geeta Sen. On the other hand in the character of Satyajit Ray, Jeetu Kamal is as usually good as he was in Aparajito. Korak Samanta, who has portrayed the younger age of Mrinal Sen, has done so very convincingly.
There is a film called interview directed by Mrinal Sen and in that film he showed Ranjit Mallick in a Tram full of passengers and through his conversation with the audience he first broke the stereotype of the narrative of the Bengali film.
Srijit Mukherjee has repeated that in his film Padatik. Srijit has made Korak Samanta do this scene. Then in order to portray current time, Chanchal Chowdhury has introduced himself through Kolkata metro railway. All these small details are fantastic.
Like Mrinal Sen, Srijit Mukherjee too has broken the style of narrative through this film. Just like every other film, apart from the positive aspects there are certain negative points. Till Chanchal Chowdhury's appearance, the film was a little bit confusing. Death precession of Tagore and the unruly mob is shown in the film. The song "Kono Kaney Kaney" is used in the film and through this song the main message of the film is conveyed.
Talking about the music of the film we must thank indradeep Das Gupta, who has done good job. There is the use of certain group songs in the film. The line "Zinda hai to zindagi" from a song, is quite apt in the movie.
There are some of the interesting facts that I must highlight. The constant debate about who is better Satyajit Ray or Mrinal Sen, this is very identifiable. Hrithik is visiting Mrinal Sen's home and is asking for food and is eating hungrily; this scene has already been criticised. There is another scene where beside Hrithik's hospital bed and Satyajit and Mrinal are standing. These scenes are applauded as well as criticized by the audience.
Friends let me tell you that Mrinal Sen loved Kolkata and called it El Dorado. Srijit Mukherji has filmed several scenes in Kolkata. The work of the DOP must be appreciated for these scenes as well as the entire movie. If you are an admirer of Mrinal sen's work then this movie is never going to disappoint you. This 2 hour film is a treat. Definitely go and watch the film.
Verdict: I think the film is going to do really well at the box office because Mrinal Sen is an emotion to the viewers. Moreover, the film is directed by Srijit Mukherji and boasts of a stellar caste. So all of you please go and watch the film and let us know your opinion.
