Nirbhaya is a film that attempts to explore the issues of Naxalism and the safety of women. However, the director, Anand Bachhav, fails to effectively address either of these topics, leaving the audience confused about the underlying theme.
The movie begins with the protagonist, Nirbhaya (played by Yogita Dandekar), being rushed to a doctor's house by some rebels after being involved in a blast. It is revealed that she is a local Naxal leader, and in exchange for her medical treatment and security during her recovery, her group trades the doctor's wife.
Unfortunately, the film lacks a cohesive and linear flow in its storytelling. The plot seems to revolve in circles, with the rebels mentioning a vague "mission" and the director emphasizing the qualities of the kind couple through various incidents. Additionally, multiple songs are inserted back-to-back without contributing much to the storyline. The inclusion of an item song before their supposed "mission" feels out of place and raises questions about whether it was added as a formulaic attempt to make a poorly executed film more appealing.
Overall, Nirbhaya fails to effectively address the issues of Naxalism and the safety of women. The lack of a coherent narrative and the inclusion of unnecessary elements such as multiple songs and an item number detract from the film's potential impact and leave the audience perplexed about the intended message.
