Set in the vibrant city of Kolkata, a string of gruesome killings sends shockwaves through the community. In this modern-day adaptation, a relentless pursuit ensues as a cunning individual, reminiscent of Duryodhan from the Mahabharata, seeks to eliminate those he believes are the reincarnations of Draupadi, Sahdev, Nakul, Arjun, Bheema, and Yudhishthir.
As the gripping storyline unfolds, Detective Ruksana Ahmed, also known as Priyanka Sarkar, and the astute Siddharto, portrayed by Arjun Chakraborty, dive deep into the baffling cases. They soon become aware of the cunning Pabitra Chatterjee, played by the talented Saswata Chatterjee, who might be the mastermind behind the assassinations, targeting his next victim, Yudhishthir. This remarkable web series draws inspiration from the equally enthralling novel of the same name by Arnab Ray.
With a stellar cast and an intriguing plot, Mahabharat Murders brings to life the remarkable script and dialogue crafted by Anirban Bhattacharya and Sougata Basu. Under the expert direction of Soumik Haldar, each scene pulsates with intensity and suspense. Saswata Chatterjee's exquisite portrayal of the shrewd politician and aspiring Chief Minister, Pabitra Chatterjee, captivates viewers with his perfect blend of charm and ruthlessness. Additionally, Kaushik Sen delivers an outstanding performance as Pabitra's steadfast companion, Abirlal.

Priyanka Sarkar and Arjun Chakraborty deliver compelling performances as law detectives, captivating viewers with their skilled portrayals. The remaining cast, featuring Rishav Basu, Rajdeep Gupta, and Debashis Mondal, provide commendable support to enhance the overall narrative. What truly distinguishes this story from common mysteries and police procedurals is its innovative incorporation of mythology. The assassinator, drawing inspiration from the legendary journey of Ved Vyasa's epic Mahabharata, meticulously selects and eliminates victims. However, it is Pabitra Chatterjee's character who magnificently deciphers the pattern of these assassinations, adding an enthralling layer of intrigue to the series. The first six episodes glide by effortlessly, captivating viewers and firmly holding their attention. Yet, at this juncture, the plot descends into chaos as a multitude of characters are introduced, causing confusion and hindering comprehension.
The non-linear style of storytelling in this series, although initially captivating, becomes a hindrance due to the abundance of similar-sounding characters. It disrupts the crisp and compelling nature of the show that once held our attention. Furthermore, the twist in the plot feels forced and difficult to believe, failing to strike a chord with viewers. The motive behind the assassinations is also disappointingly contrived and lacks depth. It appears that the writer relies heavily on introducing outlandish twists rather than focusing on a well-developed storyline.
On a positive note, Amit Ishaan's background score suits the suspenseful and gory elements of the series extremely well. The introductory tune, in particular, is pleasing to the ear and sets the tone for the show. Additionally, Ramyadip Saha's skillful camerawork contributes to the immersive world-building of the narrative. By successfully capturing the necessary level of goriness, Saha enhances the overall impact of the story. Sanglap Bhowmik's editing skills also deserve praise, as they contribute to the sharpness and crispness of the storytelling, making for a more engaging viewing experience.
