Love Aaj Kal Porshu is a refreshing film that offers a sound storyline and commendable acting. It brings an unusual flavor to Bengali cinema, thrilling the audience and evoking a heartfelt sense of love. The film's tight script is a perfect blend for the season of romance, avoiding melodrama while engaging the viewers.
To truly appreciate the film, it's best to experience the story without any spoilers. True to its title, the protagonists cannot resist falling in love with each other. The journey that unfolds and the circumstances they face add to the intrigue. Arjun and Madhumita's undeniable chemistry is a delight to watch. Arjun brings humor, quirkiness, and intelligence to the screen, while Madhumita portrays an uninhibited and fresh character. Together, they create an exquisite on-screen presence.
Hotel Paradise serves as the backdrop for this intriguing film. Without giving away too much, it can be said that like Hotel California, you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave! The protagonists' love story is skillfully manipulated, and the audience is left to discover how it unfolds by watching the film. Alongside the vibrant lead characters, the supporting actors deliver equally impressive performances. Abhijit Guha displays impeccable comic timing, while Anirban Chakrabarti and Anindita Bose shine in their respective roles. However, it is Paoli who truly captivates with her grace, dignity, and restrained emotions, stealing the hearts of the viewers.
While the film excels in many aspects, the music falls short. Aside from the sassy rendition of "Tomay Notun Kore Pabo Bole," the other songs fail to leave a lasting impression beyond the film's runtime. Additionally, the film could have delved into more complexity and nuance. The second half, in particular, becomes somewhat simplistic.
Although the concept of the film may not be entirely original, drawing comparisons to legendary works like the American TV series Westworld or Jim Carrey's The Truman Show, it ultimately doesn't diminish the enjoyment. As Pratim correctly points out in his film, "Everything is fair in love and entertainment."
