Film Review
Kirtan is a Bengali family comedy drama. The film revolves around the cat mouse relationship between father-in-law and his daughter-in-law, one being traditional mentality and another is modern person. Father-in-law wants to stay in his ancestral house where as daughter in law wants to shift her family to a new flat. Because of this a verbal clash arises between the two and we can also see a sweet comedy in their fight

Positive Points
The first thing we get is the ambience of North Kolkata and the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law cat mouse fight custom. Secondly, coming to acting everyone’s acting was versatile, specially if I talk about Paran Bandyopadhyay, who is always known for his versatile acting has also made us spellbound with his acting in this film. Long time after, we get Arunima in such a character which she is always good at. Gaurab Chatterjee on the other hand has won our hearts through is comic acting where he has become a sandwich between father and wife.
The storyline is not so unique but the design has been done in such a way that it keeps the audience engage till climax. The script has been so well designed that the dialogues properly fit the character giving a Bengali house touch. It is important to mention about the location to portray the Bengali family cuisine, a perfect location was required giving such vibes and we definitely get that when we watch the film. The art designer has beautifully portrayed the Bengali home culture through his art design. Kudos to the cinematographer as well for capturing the essence of the family drama through his shot division.
The director has implemented the comic dialogues beautifully in many scenes. Like in few scenes where we see Paran Bandyopadhyay saying, “I won’t go to flat” and “I will have sugar in bread”. The comic timing has beautifully amalgamated with the dialogues. Not only the comedy part, the emotional segment has touched our heart specially we get to see in that scene when the little boy asks her mother that his grandfather was hospitalized because of their daily fights. The director has built the emotions carefully and it made the narrative strong. Besides this, the background music, color gradation and editing is as usual.

Negative Points
The choreography of the song did not look promising to me. The chemistry did not build up properly. Few scenes seemed too overdramatic like in one scene we see Paran Bandyopadhyay is taking all the jewellery and throwing away on road

Verdict
This is the overall review of the film. The film delivers a compact family drama which will entertain you for two and a half hours. Bengali Film Reviews bring you latest news on entertainment. Be sure to visit Bengali Film Reviews for more recent updates.
