Kaka Babur Protyabartan Film Review

Directed by Srijit Mukherji, "Kakababur Protyaborton," starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, falls short due to its simplistic plot, lacklustre cinematography, and editing, which hinder the adventure-filled narrative.

The film follows the linear journey of Raja Roy Chowdhury, known as Kakababu, who has previously undertaken successful expeditions in Egypt and the Gorok Shep Plateau in "Mishawr Rohoshyo" (2013) and "Yeti Obhijaan" (2017), respectively. This time, Kakababu, accompanied by his nephew Santu (Aryann Bhowmick), embarks on an adventure in Africa in "Kakababur Protyaborton."

Based on Sunil Gangopadhyay's story "Jongoler Modhye Ek Hotel," the film attempts to immerse the audience in a virtual tour of the savanna, populated by exotic animals that periodically pose threats to the protagonists.

However, despite its promising premise, the film falls short in execution. The plot lacks depth and complexity, relying on predictable and simplistic storytelling. The cinematography fails to capture the beauty and majesty of the African landscape, robbing the film of its visual appeal. Additionally, the editing does little to enhance the pacing and excitement of the adventure, resulting in a lacklustre overall experience.

In summary, "Kakababur Protyaborton" disappoints due to its simplistic plot, subpar cinematography, and lacklustre editing. Despite being based on an intriguing story and featuring an adventurous narrative, the film fails to deliver the thrills and excitement one would expect.

However, it is not the wildlife that Kakababu is concerned about. All he intends to do is relax in the famed Little Viceroy Hotel in Kenya's Maasai Mara national game reserve, but the disappearance of two German tourists begins to consume him. Later he recalls that a wildlife conservationist was found dead in mysterious circumstances in the same spot years ago.

The prospect of enjoying an uneventful holiday seems even more distant when Kakababu receives a death threat from someone who doesn't want him in the hotel. Meanwhile, a certain Amol De (Anirban Chakrabarti), who introduces himself as the owner of a Bengali restaurant in Nairobi, proposes to join them on their trip.

Mukherji has attempted to make the most of the trio's journey to the hotel and mesmerize the audience with glimpses of the natural surroundings. But the cinematic experience is marred by Soumik Haldar's safe camerawork and the lazy editing by Pronoy Dasgupta. The technicians seem to have failed to avail themselves of the stunning locations.Upon reaching their destination, Kabababu is wary about certain shady individuals and also learns that the current owner of the hotel, Mr Livingstone, is eager to sell off the property. Kakababu senses a conspiracy by a few who are bent on acquiring the hotel at a much lower price.

In "Kakababur Protyaborton," the adventurer is vindicated as he finds himself targeted by conspirators. However, Kakababu is accustomed to life-threatening situations and handles them with ease. Despite a twist involving a character and some suspenseful sequences during Kakababu and Santu's journey through the grasslands, the film lacks excitement. Prosenjit Chatterjee struggles to deliver appropriate reactions during tense moments, while Aryann Bhowmick effectively portrays Santu's excitement and curiosity about the wildlife.

Among the cast, only Chakrabarti stands out, showcasing versatility in portraying multiple character shades. Director Srijit Mukherji's incorporation of references to Feluda, a popular fictional detective, and other thematic elements makes the film feel oversaturated. The Feluda references work primarily due to the character twist.

The songs by Indraadip Dasgupta, particularly 'Phire Elo Kakababu' sung by Rupam Islam, and the background score compensate for the deficiencies in camerawork and editing. Despite the film being presented in a linear manner, its simplistic plot fails to live up to the expectations generated over the past two years.
