In Ekannoborti, filmmaker Mainak Bhaumik focuses on the complex relationships shared by women from different generations within a family. The film highlights the central role of women in the narrative, while the male characters take a backseat.
The story revolves around four women. Malini Chatterjee, portrayed by Aparajota Adhya, is facing the challenge of coping with her husband's infidelity after being married for 25 years. She is the only daughter of Mrs Banerjee, the elderly matriarch of the family, played by Alokananda Roy. To repay a loan installment, Mrs Banerjee decides to rent out their mortgaged family mansion to film director Abhradeep Dutta, played by Kaushik Sen.
Malini has two daughters, Shila (Sauraseni Maitra) and Pinky (Ananya Sen), who each carry their own burdens. Shila is trapped in a loveless relationship but desperately tries to salvage it. Pinky, on the other hand, struggles with bulimia and a lack of self-esteem.
The film portrays the challenges and complexities faced by each of these women, highlighting their individual struggles within the larger family dynamic. Mainak Bhaumik, known for his understanding of complicated relationships, provides a platform for women to take center stage in the story, offering a heartening portrayal of their experiences.
