Daroga Mamur Kirti: Comedy, when handled wrongly, can turn out to be pathetic!

About the story: This is the tale of a police inspector who goes to a small place called KaliNarayanPur. There are several criminals out there whom he handles quite deftly. But everything is carried out in a comical way.

About the cast : The film stars Ranjit Mallick, Laboni Sarcar, Kharaj Mukherjee, Sumit Ganguly, Biswajit Chakraborty.

About the Director and the Producer : The film is directed by Nehal Dutta and produced by Saptak Sanai Das. The film is produced under the banner of Shree Jagannath Films.

About the film review: There are few films whose trailers create a lot of excitement among the hearts of the viewers. However after watching the movie it is seen that audience's high expectations are not at all fulfilled. This film is just like that.

Firstly how a film like this is released and more importantly how a star actor like Ranjit Mallick is a part of this film, these are the biggest questions. In the path of progress of Bengali films, films like these are going to act like impediments. At least so do I think. Because I haven't liked the film from any angle. There is not a single department in the film that can be praised. Even if I falsely try to praise the movie, then also it is difficult to do so. Because all of you , who have earlier watched the trailer must be knowing the story of this film. There is one particular place called KaliNarayanPur where there are some problems and then a police officer comes to solve those problems. And all this was shown in a comic genre. And that is what we loved about the film. The fact is that, there are many films like this but how the subject was presented in a comical environment, is what intrigued us. But here when I went to watch the film I saw that there is not even the "c" of comedy. So much so, that It can't even be called a slap stick comedy. People are forcefully tried to make laugh; in fact very forcefully but still the film can't evoke any laughter from the audience. Things are done forcefully. In some places, Ranjit Mallick goes and pulls out the moustache of a person and that person starts bleeding. Here is this character of a police officer who has a lot of personality and at the same time when his wife is walking, he is mimicking her and walking behind her, by swaying his hips. With all these meaningless elements thrown together, people are tried to make laugh but in vain!

Acting Part : We have not much seen Ranjit Mallick in films like this. In all his films where we have seen Ranjit Mallick, even in the comic ones, there was some kind of some feel good factor. His characters used to have some kind of personality before but here his personality has been totally razed to the ground. The actor who is the life of this film, has not been utilised properly. One thing is that, in those portions where Ranjit Mallick has acted, he has tried to do justice to his character and what he has done according to his character is right; but the kind of work that he has been made to do in this film is not right. If we talk about kharaj Mukherjee he has not at all been used in the film. In the trailer we saw that Kharaj Mukherjee has played the role like that of Rabi Ghosh in Golpo Holeo Sotti and he is also taking the name of Rabi Ghosh. On seeing this, we thought that this would be something different. But Kharaj Mukherjee himself fails to make us laugh! A star like Kharaj Mukherjee, who can be called the King of comedy, fails to make the audience laugh. Here the chemistry of Ranjit Mallick and labani Sarkar has some what turned out to be buffoonery. This apart, Ranjit Mallick has a nephew. The activities of that nephew, his romantic scenes all these things have been used to create a kind of mass appeal. Some bike stunts of this guy is also shown but none of that has worked for the film.

Scripting and Technical part: The script of the movie is extremely weak and meaningless. Nothing of the film's story can be made out. It has been simply treated absurdly. If I talk about the technical part of the film like the work of the DOP or the colour gradation of the film, in that case it is difficult to say in which cable the film is shot. I haven't at all liked the first part of the film as well as the quality of the entire film.

Verdict: As a Bengali film if you want to go and watch the movie you can watch it, but I don't think that nothing in the film will entertain you. Only thing that I can say is that Ranjit Mallick has made a come back. We have seen him on silver screen and that is a consolation. But the way we have seen Ranjit Mallick in his earlier movies, right now it would be better if we see him doing meaningful roles.
