Bonbibi: Who is more dangerous, the man-eater or the man?

About the story: Bonbibi is a film which revolves around the livelihood of the people of Sundarban, their ways of life, their lifestyle, their rituals, and obviously certain criminal activities of that place . Bonbibi is the Goddess whom the people of Sundarban worship. Those who go to the forest to collect honey or collect firewood, before going they perform the ritual of worshipping Bonbibi because they think that she is going to save them from the man-eaters.

About the cast: The film stars actors like Parno Mitra, Arya Das Gupta, Sohini Sarkar, Rupanjana Mitra, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Mishka Haleem, Ronojoy, Dipannita Nath and others.

About the director and the Producer: The film is directed by Rajdeep Ghosh and produced by Rana Sarkar.

About the film review: Primarily this film focuses on the ways of life of the people of Sundarbans - certain rituals which are followed by them, the specialities of the place and we definitely get certain information regarding this area. That is an important factor. Firstly the film is named Bonbibi after the Goddess of Sundarbans. The inhabitants of Sundarbans worship her before they go to collect honey or firewoods because they think that if the worship her they will be saved from the tigers. In that case are the really safe from the tigers? And there are tigers not only in the forest but also on the land. There are many human-looking tigers and how is it possible to be safe from them; this metaphor is very nicely shown in the movie.

The Acting Part: If I talk about the acting skill of the actors in the movie, then I must say that everyone's performances is average. Here in a particular place in the movie we will see that a relationship is shown between Parno Mitra and Arya. There is a romantic connection between the two. I have liked the build up of this place. This apart, if we talk about the performance of other actors, here we will find Dibyendu Bhattacharya as the main villain. In this case case I cannot say that he has acted extremely well, but I can say that he has given an average performance.

Dibyendu Bhattacharya - as you all know he is quite an established actor in Mumbai. By incorporating him in the movie, the makers have tried to uplift the film but he has not been properly used in the movie. Which means in the way in which Dibyendu could have been used properly to uplift the movie, that has not been done. Here it would be unfair to blame only Dibyendu for not acting well because we have seen him act in various movies and his performance has touched our hearts in several movies. But here his acting has not been highlighted properly and that is the fault of the director. And during making the of movie, how all the subplots have got entangled, that I do not like. But yes Rupanjana's performance in several places are praise-worthy.

Scripting and Technical part: Many of you must have watched Abar Proloy. It was also a Sundarban oriented movie but this particular film is not like any other commercial movie which has been made on Sundarban. This is very simple story of the livelihood of the people of Sundarban. However, the script is not good. There are various subplots in this movie. And somewhere all these subplots have got so much entangled with one another, that what is the actual message of the movie, that thing has become very unclear. Is it a love story or is it a film regarding some criminal activities or is a particular relationship highlighted or is it a kind of documentary; none of these is very clear. Now if I talk about the colour gradation of the film and if I move on to the technical part of the film; if I talk about the editing of the film - none of these are very high class but the minimum that is required to bring out the information in the movie that minimum level of videography, colour gradation and editing are maintained there. Not very high class but all these departments are average. If I talk about the background music of this movie then I will discuss it, while talking about the negative aspects of the movie. Because I personally haven't much liked the background score of this film. Sundarban oriented other films like Abar Proloy; if we see the background music in comparison to the ones in those films, here is not that good.

The Verdict: As a Bengali film and compared to other films, particularly the recent ones like Daroga Mamur Keerti, this is much better . I cannot say that this film is a very superior one neither is it a very inferior one, but this is an average movie. Now you people go and watch the movie And do let us not how you have like the movie.
