About the story: Babli is one of the most famous novels by author Buddhadeb Guha. Based on that novel, Raj Chakraborty has presented his latest venture Babli. Babli is not a slim and fragile heroine but an ordinary girl who is a little overweight. She is bestowed with insecurity, pride and at the same time the capability to love someone whole-heartedly. And a handsome novelist Abhi, falls in love with this girl. In the trailer it is seen that Babli is travelling along an unknown road, along with an unknown individual. And while travelling she is telling him that her friends always advise her to lose weight. But the novelist tells her, that to him, she looks beautiful as she is. This is how Babli and the novelist embarks on a journey. But though their relationship is gradually blossoming into love, between the two of them, there comes beautiful and slim Jhuma. By profession she is an air hostess. Thus Babli is a triangle love story. Friends while watching the movie you have to keep in mind that the timeline of this novel is 1995 and the story has proceeded accordingly.

About the cast and crew: The film stars Abir Chatterjee, Subhashree Ganguly and Sauraseni Maitra.

About the director and the producer: The film Babli is directed by Raj Chakraborty and it is produced by Subhashree Ganguly.

About the film: Babli is one of the most famous novels by author Buddhadeb Guha. Based on that novel, Raj Chakraborty has presented his latest venture Babli. Another thing which is mention worthy is that the novel by Buddhadeb Guha started at a location in Imphal. But Raj Chakraborty has slightly changed that and in the movie we see that Subhashree is riding a bike while travelling from Imphal to Kolkata and on her way she is thinking about all that has happened, in flashback. And that is how the story unfolds.

Now let metalk about the cast of the film Babli. As you all know the character of Babli is portrayed by Subhashree Ganguly and opposite her, the character of the male protagonist is played by none other than Abir Chatterjee. This is the first time that Subhashree Ganguly has paired up with Abir Chatterjee on silver screen. But if we look at their performance, we will find that there is absolutely no inhibition between them. In fact they share a sizzling chemistry on screen. This is one of the most important positive points of the film.

Friends if we look at the novel Babli then we see that there are two very important scenes. While travelling to Dimapur, Babli and Abhi get stuck in the middle of the forest, owing to the breakdown of Abhi's car. Another important scene is while going to Delhi, to meet Babli, they kiss each other on the middle of the road. Both of these scenes are there in the movie and the acting of the lead pair in these two scenes are absolutely wonderful and free of any inhibition.

Another important thing is that the character of Babli, as portrayed by Buddhadeb Guha in his novel, is not that loud. But Babli in Raj Chakraborty directed Babli is quite loud and at times nagging. Here the film differs from the main novel.

One of the striking features of this movie is the colour gradation. The picturesque locations of Dimapur, Imphal etc are shown beautifully and the natural beauty of these places are wonderfully highlighted. Very few Bengali films portray this kind of natural beauty. The scenic beauty, the serenity of the locations, all these things and the soothing colour gradation together make the film very pleasing to the eye.

Another important thing is that in the movie, after going to Delhi, Abhi gets into a dilemma. This is because already he was having a relationship with Babli, who is an overweight girl and is not that beautiful while after coming to Delhi he meets the slim beauty Jhuma who is an air hostess by profession. This character is played by Sauraseni Maitra. When a relationship was about to grow between Abhi and Juma Babli comes in between. It is shown here that when she comes to Delhi she has undergone a transformation and has reduced weight. Though in reality Subhashree may not have lost weight, but this transformation looks good on screen.

Nowif I talk about the music and the background score of the movie, then there is nothing muchto say. Actually most of the songs of the film are quite melodious like "Mon Pakhi", "Dubey achi", etc. while watching the movie on screen I am sure most of the audience are going to enjoy the songs.

Now let metalk about the directorial part. This is for the first time that Raj Chakraborty has madeafilm based on a novel, which is out and out romantic. Thus this movie does not necessarily follow the mainstream commercial pattern. Raj Chakraborty has tried to do something experimental. If you have watched the previous movies directed by Raj Chakraborty then this film may seem to lack pace. But overall, this is a very enjoyable movie.

Verdict: I would recommend everyone to watch the movie because there is an old world charm which is really nostalgia-evoking. I think the movie is going to fare really well because the chemistry between Abir and Subhashree is really Sparkling and the novel is also a very well known one
