Web Series Review

"Abar Proloy" is an exhilarating Bengali web series that pushes the boundaries in every way. Director Raj veers away from the conventional dark and gritty realism, yet manages to create a sensible show filled with powerful elements such as songs, dances, intense action sequences, and heart-wrenching emotions. Alongside these awe-inspiring moments, the show offers poignant scenes like destitute children playfully dancing amidst the dilapidated walls of a church or a young man callously selling off his girlfriend in the middle of a river. These unforgettable shots will forever be etched into your memory. The stunning visuals capture the lush green beauty of the Sundarbans and the glistening currents of narrow rivers throughout the entire show. "Abar Proloy" commences as a gripping cop drama but swiftly evolves into a riveting tale of love, friendship, betrayal, and jealousy. The series truly shines in its impeccable dialogue and masterfully crafted screenplay.

The story flows seamlessly until the climax which is a tad drab. In fact, after a while, one will get a fair idea of the storyline

The way the timeline is treated will remain interesting. Also, the dialogues are engaging and unputdownable. It makes the dialect more convincing. It is nothing short of a casting coup with a series of ace actors portraying crucial characters in the series.

Saswata aces Animesh Dutta with sheer swag and confidence. The seasoned actor that he is, Saswata knows too well what is needed to make the character convincing. Animesh is sharper, smarter, and funnier than Proloy and Saswata captures the general progression of this character perfectly well. Paran Bandyopadhyay has little to do apart from his presence to build the connection between Abar Proloy with its previous film.

It comes as no surprise that Ritwick Chakraborty's presence on the screen is captivating. While his portrayal of Shombhu Baba may have been influenced by others, he manages to bring a refreshing originality to the character. The chemistry between him and Animesh Dutta is a delight to witness. Shombhu Baba, with his calm and shrewd demeanor, exudes an eerie vibe with a faint smile that sends chills down your spine. Ritwick truly knocks it out of the park with this performance.

On the other hand, Koushani surprises everyone with her de-glam avatar. She skillfully embodies her character to the best of her ability. However, it is the undeniable charm and magnetism of her co-actors that steals the spotlight from her. Nevertheless, it is heartwarming to see Saayoni Ghosh shine on the screen in a substantial role after a period of time. She impeccably does justice to her character, leaving a lasting impact.

Sohini Sengupta also leaves a lasting impression with her portrayal of Madhabi. Her performance is so effortless that one could believe she is a constable from rural Bengal battling gender discrimination throughout her career. She truly commands the screen with her brilliant portrayal.

The series boasts a captivating soundscape that deserves special recognition. Whether it's the bone-chilling and foreboding background score that perfectly captures the essence of the dense Sundarbans, or the empowering melody that accompanies the charismatic Animesh Dutta, the series' background music is truly remarkable. Raj, the mastermind behind the series, introduces not one, but two mesmerizing dance numbers that will leave you in awe. The first one is a liberating and inclusive piece featuring the talented members of the Hujja gang. Just when you thought the surprises were over, Raj strikes again with "Menoka," a captivating performance where Gaurav astounds with his moves alongside the enchanting Nusraat Faria. Unsurprisingly, both dance numbers have taken the social media world by storm, gaining a massive following and becoming an absolute delight to witness on screen.

Verdict

Abar Proloy may have its flaws, such as a disconnect between the family aspect of Animesh and the overall show, as well as a somewhat implausible ending. However, these minor issues should not overshadow the fact that it is a truly impressive and captivating form of entertainment. Raj, the mastermind behind this show, has undoubtedly demonstrated his expertise and spared no effort in creating a spectacular masterpiece with Abar Proloy. The web series is streaming now in Zee 5.
